Hot August Report

image

The word is flounder and a lot of small ones. There are a few legals in the mix. Puppy and slot drum still the best action with a mixed in trout. Its hot so be careful out there – drink plenty of water.

Old drum this weelowed a little this week and still a little early but don’t think you cant stick one. Took my grandson Monday and had 1 on he lost along with rays. Should continue to inprove. Ive had reports of huge schools around inlets and where are they coming to! I have landed a new source for the freshest mullet available though the season. If I don’t have any, I have a good friend to send you to to fill your cooler.  Please call me to order yours. Most use 20/25# a trip. I also have a good supply of chum, Penn Slammer Combos and lupton rigs.

Big drum trips available and can also be scheduled. I prefer late afternoon returning around dark. Call for details.

The Jimmy Arthur Memorial Fishing Tournament was a huge success. There were 37 adult and 13 jr anglers fishing hard in the heat for a memorable trophy in one of the 3 categories; speckled trout, drum and flounder. There were reports of a lot of small fish caught with a total of 13 weighed in. Results of the adult categories are:  Trout – 1st @ 3.28 lb Pete Roach, 2nd @ 1.62 lb Doug White, 3rd @1.50 lb Owen Lupton III / Drum - 1st @ 5.12 lb George Wiggins, 2nd @ 4.64 lb Pete Roach, 3rd @4.44 lb Michael Carawan / Flounder - 1st @ 1.86 lb Owen Lupton III, 2nd @ 1.80 lb Ricky Willis, 3rd @1.58 lb Doug White. Results for the jr anglers are:  Flounder - 1st @ 1.48 lb Payton Chrome, Drum - 1st @ 3.44 lb Samantha Salter with the big winner of the Trout trophy to the young lady that couldn’t fish with her dad; April Arthur.

On top of all the fishing, approximately 500 BBQ (cooked by Ed Dixon, JB Brigman and Chad Levy) plates were sold at the tournament site of Pamlico County Moose Lodge.

We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Pamlico News, Village Graphics, Piggly Wiggly, Merita Bread for there support advertising and providing food goods for event. The following businesses and individuals provided cash donations: Minnesott Beach Bait & Tackle, Vernon Stewart Jr, Michael Carawan, Fairfield Fishing Club, Rainbow AF&AM Masonic, Hardison Tire & Oil, Power Craft Marine, Morgans Tavern & Grille, Sam Myers, Andrew Little, Mobile East Marine, Deaton Yacht Service, Nance Jordan Nursery, and Ann Smithwick.

All of this along about $6,000 for the 3 girls. It was so great to see the support of businesses and residence during these sad times.

I will be up and running now selling Ncwildlife hunting/fishing license and boater registrations this weekend.  Let me know if I can help you with yours.

Safe fishing and remember OUR KIDS
